As part of the Google BrandHack team, we were tasked with creating innovative tech and digital communications for BookMyShow, an entertainment ticketing portal. The brief was to redirect the theatre-going audience to the BookMyShow app or website. The challenge was that we could only use non-traditional channels of communication.

So we chose Google Weather API as the platform through which to redirect the user to the client’s app and website. Our choice was influenced by this observation: checking the weather is a daily habit; people frequent a weather app several times a day.

We started working on a weather app that made intelligent use of geo-contextual data (no primary or secondary data was used) through a weather based API from Google. We reskinned a weather app; then built a Progressive Web Application (PWA) to host the core of the content.

The URL of the desktop experience and the PWA are the same, meaning less complexity for the user. Instead of reading the temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit, the user saw weather-related quotes from well-known plays which was at a theatre production near them. We shared this PWA prototype with BookMyShow for use in their retargeting campaign.
