In 2011, Penguin India wanted a foothold in the India’s burgeoning e-commerce industry. Their primary objective was to control the sale of its published books online. Our response was to restructure their site architecture and redesign their website.
User research revealed that online customers of books prefer progressive discovery over a very transactional interface. So the thematic and schematic of the redesign included layouts, functions and interactions which lend itself to further exploration. The interface and overall experience of the site put the user first and allowed for intuitive discovery. The redesign also incorporated dedicated catalogue, author, events and social sections into a more user-friendly system. The redesigned website was live till 2013, when Penguin merged with Random House. It was also featured in 2012 Best Curated Interactive Design on Behance.
